Pulsar Brake Light Mod.

The Pulsar Brake Light modification is a great safety upgrade if your concerned about tailgaiters that don't pay attention.

This great little circuit is simple to install and provides four flashes of your third brake light every time you apply your brakes. It only works on the third brake light, thats the one just under the spoiler on a Cooper/Cooper S and the one just above the rear MINI logo on the Cabrio. The kit is available from the fine people at gominigo.

Simple to install, one simply removes the three T20 screws from under the spoiler,

then with the latch in the down position, pull the light unit out. It tends to be well seated and may need a little prying to release it.

The light unit is connected to the car's electrics by a black connector, so disconnect that, then you can remove the small white connector on the other end of the cable by pressing a small tab. Now you have the short cable removed from the light unit. Cut this in the center and strip the two wires ,on each of the cut ends, back about 1/8th of an inch.

The Pulsar unit has a connector at each end and is marked "Light" and "Harness". Now connect the stripped back wires that feed the white connector to the "Light" connector end of the circuit. The connectors are push-in screw type and easy to use - you need a small screwdriver to tighten them. Do the same to the other two wires leading to the black connector - connecting them to the 'Harness" connectors and tighten.

Then re-connect the light unit to the car's wiring harness and re-install the light unit, tucking the circuit out of the way. On the bottom of the pulsar circuit board is a piece of double sided tape to make it adhere to the light unit and preventing it rattling around. Once the light unit is back in the opening, re-attach the three Torx T20 screws, turn on the ignition and with the assistance of a 2nd person, check that its working by applying the foot brake.

This is a very simple modification and is well documented in their instruction sheet. GoMINI delivered the product very well packaged, with the circuit in an antistatic bag and a two page manual covering the install in both a coupe and a cabrio. Nice job!
